[Update:] Nike unveiled the NIKE Air Mag (no power lacing! > “It’s not 2015 yet”) – limited to 1.500 pairs which will be auctioned. 100% proceeds to the MJF Foundation. For ten days, 150 pairs of Air Mags will be auctioned off daily at nikemag.ebay.com. The auctions will begin tonight and end on September 18th.
I’m an 80s kid and grew up with the trilogy of Back to the future. For me one of the most fantastic movies ever made, because it so much transports the feelings, visions and wishes of that very special decade. What fanboys around the world are fascinated most about are three special gadgets: The Mattel Hoverboard (of course), the self-drying jacket and of course the self-lacing Nike’s Marty McFly wore in the second part: Power Laces, alright!:
There have been several petitions from fans supporting Nike’s original idea of the self lacing sneakers. And there have been many many selfmade trainers, that more of less try to look like the ones in the film.
Now it looks like Nike is about to unveil the Nike MAG 2011 today!
In a teaser handed out to select sneaker-heavy publishing groups, a midnight call from NIKE quickly turned into a room with only a black box with the swoop logo on it, an iPod Shuffle, and a card which read “Play Me.” Once Dr. Emmett Brown was heard saying “Welcome to Los Angeles. If my calculations are correct, over the next 24 hours you are about to see some SERIOUS SH*T!”, the publisher’s next move was to open the box and find a pair of the Doc’s classic 2015 shades and a message that invited them to an event that promised nothing less than the sneakers themselves!
